To make things easier on people I've decided to merge my music page and my blog. This will also give me a reason to update the blog from time to time. But I'm going to delete most of the mp3s that were here already to save space. I'll leave the text, in case you're still interested - and I'm sure you can look all the songs up easily using a P2P tool like Limewire.

I'm going to an Imogen Heap concert next week and trying to convince some people to come with me, so I thought I'd put up one of her songs. Also a couple of tracks I listened to recently and enjoyed.

King Tide Neil Finn

Midnight in a Perfect World DJ Shadow

I promised a bunch of people to put a bunch of stuff up a long time ago, and I'm only now getting around to it. In fact I know I've forgotten what I told Brian I'd put up but here are two older Cocteau tracks for Peter and some Sonny Rollins so Glen can join me in the great Coltrane/Rollins debate.

You Don't Know What Love Is Sonny Rollins

Carolyn's Fingers Cocteau Twins

Wax and Wane Cocteau Twins

Third drop. I recently went to an Elvis Costello concert and came out thinking about how much he reminded me of, of all people, Bob Dylan. Well I mentioned it and of course everyone laughed, gave me a wedgie and threw me into a trash can, but I kept thinking about it and now I have finally uploaded some music which may prove it.

Also in this upload, the song with the chick with the weird voice, for Melanie (no not you Melanie but thanks for reading my blog!) and for everyone who reads my blog but is too lazy to friggin download TWO TRACKS from ITunes, Humdrum and Slowburn so you can figure out my last entry.

Subterranean Homesick Blues Bob Dylan

Heart of Mine Bob Dylan

Isis Bob Dylan

Will You Be Ready Deep Forest (featuring Angela McCluskey and Chitose Hajime)

Humdrum Peter Gabriel

Slowburn Peter Gabriel

Second drop. This one is for Adam, a couple Gayatri Mantras for your entertainment. It is my considered opinion that the opening music for Battlestar Galactica is derived from the Deva Premal version. I thought the BSG music was pretty cool but then suddenly had a moment of recognition, actually something of a musical epiphany. It was pretty cool - the music I knew was quite different and my Sanskrit is pretty limited, so I was surprised to recognize it.

The version I knew was extremely popular in India while I was there, and I'm glad I managed to finally find it here. Both versions are cut off - I cut the second but presumably the first was cut for the same reason, which is that the mantra is properly supposed to be recited 108 times and that's a big MP3. update 8/19/2005: I threw the BSG version up for comparison.
